Edinburgh Airport has one terminal on the western edge of the city, about 20 minutes from the city centre and a few minutes from the M9. This page covers the road routes from each direction, the tram, the Airlink 100 and other buses, the train via Edinburgh Gateway, and coaches. For drop-off charges, how early to arrive and which parking to choose, see our guide to flying from Edinburgh Airport.
By car: the postcode and the last few miles
For sat-nav, the airport postcode is EH12 9DN. If you have booked parking off the airport, use the postcode in your booking confirmation instead.
Almost every route ends on the A8 Glasgow Road. The airport entrance is off the A8 between the Newbridge roundabout to the west and the Gogar roundabout to the east.
Routes from each direction
- From Glasgow and the west (M8): leave at junction 2 for the M9, follow the airport signs to junction 1 at Newbridge, then take the A8 towards Edinburgh.
- From Stirling and the north-west (M9): follow the M9 south-east to junction 1 at Newbridge, then take the A8 towards Edinburgh.
- From Fife, Perth and the north (M90): cross the Queensferry Crossing and stay on the M90 to the M9 at junction 1A, near Kirkliston. Take the M9 towards Edinburgh for one junction, then the A8 from junction 1.
- From the south and east (the A1, A7, A68 and A702): follow the A720 City Bypass west to its end at the Gogar roundabout, then take the A8 towards Glasgow.
- From Edinburgh city centre: take the A8 west through Corstorphine and past the Gogar roundabout.
Traffic Scotland shows live roadworks and delays on the motorways and trunk roads.
By tram
The tram stop is right outside the terminal, next to the plaza and the Edinburgh sign. The line runs through Edinburgh Park, Haymarket, Princes Street, St Andrew Square and Leith to Newhaven.
- How often: every 7 minutes through the day and every 10 minutes early and late. The first tram leaves the airport at 06:30 and the last at 22:52.
- Journey time: about 30 minutes to the city centre and 54 minutes to Newhaven.
- Tickets: buy before you board, from the machine at the stop or the app, or tap a contactless card on the platform reader. Adult airport fares start at £7.90.
Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Bus Station are a short walk from the St Andrew Square stop.
By train: change at Edinburgh Gateway
There is no station at the airport, so take the tram to one on the line:
- Edinburgh Gateway, a few stops from the airport, for ScotRail trains to Fife, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness and the north.
- Edinburgh Park, for trains to Glasgow, Falkirk, Stirling and central Scotland.
- Haymarket, for Glasgow, Fife, the north and trains to England.
- Edinburgh Waverley, via St Andrew Square, for LNER to London King's Cross, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express, Avanti West Coast and trains across Scotland.
Combined train and tram tickets are sold online, at stations and at machines in the check-in hall, near the Jet2.com desks.
