Newcastle Airport has one terminal, and almost all of its food, drink and shopping is after security, in the departure lounge. Before security there is coffee, a bakery and a newsagent, but little else, so if you want a proper meal, go through security first. This page lists what is on each side, so you can decide where to eat and how much time to leave.
Checked against Newcastle International Airport's own listings in October 2026; outlets change, so check the airport's site for opening hours.
For how early to arrive, drop-off and parking, see our guide to flying from Newcastle Airport.
Before security (check-in)
- Greggs: the bakery chain, open 24 hours. You can order ahead in the Greggs app with Click + Collect.
- Starbucks: coffee and iced drinks in the check-in hall. It opens later than the departure lounge branch, from 05:00.
- WHSmith: books, magazines, snacks and travel essentials. There is a second branch after security.
- Change Group: currency exchange, with a counter at check-in and another in the departure lounge. You can also order travel money online and collect it, and sell back leftover currency when you return.
If you are waiting with someone who is not flying, this is all there is, so Greggs and Starbucks are the places to sit.
After security: restaurants and bars
Several of these open very early for the first departures, and the airport's listings for each carry a link to book a table.
- Aster & Thyme: one of the airport's newest places, with floor-to-ceiling runway views, a full bar and breakfast, lunch and dinner menus built around local produce, plus a small plates menu. Open from the first flight until late.
- Bar 11: a refurbished bar and sit-down restaurant, also with runway views. It has breakfast, all-day and children's menus, with vegetarian, plant-based and gluten-free choices. Open from the first flight until late.
- Quaystone: a large, family-friendly restaurant serving breakfast stotties and full English breakfasts, then pizza, pasta and burgers, with a children's menu.
- Tap + Brew: a lively bar showing Sky Sports, with craft beers including the North East's Full Circle Brewery, and a kitchen serving filled Geordie stotties and pizzas made to order. Open from 03:00 until the last flight.
After security: quicker food and coffee
- Burger King: flame-grilled burgers, chicken, salads and a children's menu.
- Soul + Grain: freshly made food to eat in or take away, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
- Upper Crust: baguettes baked through the day, plus Millie's Cookies. It opens at 03:00 but closes in the late afternoon.
- Starbucks: a second branch in the departure lounge, opening from 03:30.
Boots, below, also sells sandwiches, snacks and drinks, including its meal deal, which is a quick option if the cafes are busy.
After security: shops
- World Duty Free: open 24 hours, selling fragrance, cosmetics, skincare, spirits, confectionery, sunglasses and souvenirs.
- Boots: suncream, toiletries, make-up and travel essentials, plus food and drink. You can order online and collect in the store, which saves room in your bag.
- WHSmith: books, magazines and travel accessories, along with high-street beauty products.
- JD Sports: trainers, sportswear and accessories from brands such as Nike, adidas and New Balance.
- Accessorize: fashion accessories.
- InMotion: headphones, chargers and other electronics from brands including Apple, Samsung, Bose, JBL and Sony. It closes earlier on Saturdays.
- Change Group: currency exchange, as at check-in.
Reserve & Collect
World Duty Free's Reserve & Collect lets you order before you travel and pick the items up from the store at the airport. The airport says it gives 10% off and access to more than 10,000 products that are not stocked in the store.
A few things to know
- Early flights: Tap + Brew and Upper Crust open at 03:00, and Starbucks and Quaystone in the departure lounge at 03:30, so you can get breakfast before most first departures. Before security, only Greggs is open around the clock.
- Afternoon and evening flights: several outlets close earlier in the day. Upper Crust shuts in the late afternoon, and Accessorize and Change Group at 18:00. For a late flight, Aster & Thyme, Bar 11, Tap + Brew, Boots, WHSmith and World Duty Free are the ones listed as open until late or the last flight.
- Lounges: if you would rather have somewhere quieter to wait, with food and drink included, compare the options on our Newcastle Airport lounges page.
