Glasgow Airport sits beside the M8 at Paisley, about 7 miles west of Glasgow, with a single terminal. This page covers the road routes from each direction, the Glasgow Airport Express bus, the train via Paisley Gilmour Street, and the coaches that stop outside the terminal. For drop-off charges, how early to arrive and which parking to choose, see our guide to flying from Glasgow Airport.

By car: the postcode and the last few miles

For sat-nav, use PA3 2ST, the current postcode beside the terminal. The airport's own driving page still gives PA3 2SW, but that postcode was withdrawn in 2014 and an up-to-date sat-nav may not find it. If you have booked parking off the airport, use the postcode in your booking confirmation instead.

The airport's advice is simple: leave the M8 at junction 28 if you are coming from the east and Glasgow, or junction 29 if you are coming from the west. Both are signed for the airport, and from either one it is a short drive to the terminal and car parks.

Routes from each direction

  • From Glasgow city centre, Edinburgh and the east: follow the M8 west through Glasgow, over the Kingston Bridge, and leave at junction 28.
  • From the north-east (Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen): come south on the M80, which meets the M8 at junction 13 in the east of the city, then head west on the M8 through the city to junction 28.
  • From the south (Carlisle, Dumfries, Lanarkshire): take the M74 north towards Glasgow, where it joins the M8 just south of the city centre, then follow the M8 west to junction 28.
  • From Ayr and Kilmarnock: the M77 runs north and joins the M8 at junction 22 (Plantation), a few miles east of the airport. Head west on the M8 to junction 28.
  • From Irvine and north Ayrshire: the A737 runs north through Kilwinning, Dalry and Johnstone and meets the M8 at junction 28A, beside the airport. Follow the airport signs from there.
  • From the north-west (Loch Lomond, Dumbarton, Helensburgh): follow the A82 towards Glasgow and cross the Erskine Bridge, which has been toll-free since 2006. Its southern approach, the M898, joins the M8 at junction 30. Head east on the M8 and leave at junction 29.
  • From Greenock and Inverclyde: take the A8 east, which becomes the M8, and leave at junction 29.

Routes from the east and south all use the M8 through central Glasgow, so allow extra time at rush hour. Traffic Scotland shows live roadworks and delays.

By bus: Glasgow Airport Express, service 500

The Glasgow Airport Express, service 500, run by First Glasgow, is the airport's official bus link to the city centre, with journeys from about 15 minutes. All its buses are electric.

  • From the city: catch it at Buchanan Bus Station, stance 46. It also stops near Central Station and Queen Street Station.
  • From the airport: it leaves from stance 1, outside the terminal.
  • Times: it runs 24 hours a day, every 10 minutes at the busiest times and hourly through the night.
  • Tickets: buy in the First Bus app or online, or on board by contactless, card or cash.

Other local buses

  • McGill's 757: from stance 7, to Paisley Gilmour Street station and Paisley, and the other way via Inchinnan to Clydebank.
  • First 77: from stance 6, to Glasgow city centre via Renfrew, Braehead, the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Partick.

There is no railway station at the airport. The nearest is Paisley Gilmour Street, about a mile away, linked to the terminal by the McGill's 757 bus.

  • From Glasgow Central: ScotRail runs about 146 direct trains a day to Paisley Gilmour Street, taking 11 minutes on average. Change there for the 757.
  • From Ayrshire and Inverclyde: ScotRail suggests changing at Paisley Gilmour Street for the 757.
  • From north-west Glasgow, Dumbarton, Helensburgh and the West Highlands: ScotRail suggests changing at Partick for the First 77 bus.
  • Via Glasgow Central or Queen Street: ScotRail's Airlink tickets, sold at staffed stations, combine the train with the 500 bus. Only tickets marked "Glasgow Air XBus" are valid on it. There are no through tickets for the 757 or the 77.

By coach

Longer-distance coaches stop outside the terminal:

  • Citylink 903 (from stance 9): new from 24 October 2026, up to hourly between the airport, the SEC, Glasgow city centre and Baillieston, with alternate journeys going on to Bathgate and Edinburgh Haymarket, or to Uddingston and Blantyre. Edinburgh to the airport takes around 2 hours 10 minutes.
  • Citylink 914, 915 and 917 (stance 9): to Skye, via Loch Lomond and Fort William.
  • Citylink 977 (stance 9): to Oban.
  • Ember E5 (stance 9): to Fort William, and Ember E16 to Oban.
  • FlixBus (stance 10): to Stirling, Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen.

By taxi

The airport's own white taxis wait at the rank just outside the terminal, and you do not need to book. The airport says it cannot offer return journeys at the moment, so for the trip to the airport, book a taxi from your own area.
