Exeter Airport is at Clyst Honiton, about five miles east of Exeter city centre and a mile off the M5, with a single terminal. There is no railway station at the airport, so if you are not driving you will usually take a bus or taxi from one of Exeter's stations. This page covers the road routes, buses, trains and coaches, and what there is to eat, drink and buy in the terminal. For drop-off, how early to arrive and which parking to choose, see our guide to flying from Exeter Airport.

By car: the postcode and the last mile

For sat-nav, the airport postcode is EX5 2BD. If you have booked parking, use the postcode in your booking confirmation instead.

Almost every route ends the same way. The airport is off the A30, about a mile east of M5 junction 29. Take the first junction off the A30 eastbound, signed for the airport and the B3184; at the roundabout, follow the airport signs and continue for about a mile on the B3184 to the terminal. You cannot stop on the terminal approach roads, so head for your car park.

Routes from each direction

  • From the north (Bristol, Taunton, Tiverton): take the M5 south to junction 29, then the A30 east towards Honiton.
  • From the east (London, Salisbury, Yeovil, Honiton): the A303 joins the A30 east of Honiton. Follow the A30 west past Honiton; the airport junction comes before you reach the M5.
  • From the west (Cornwall, Okehampton): the A30 meets the M5 at junction 31, south-west of Exeter. Take the M5 north to junction 29, then the A30 east.
  • From the south (Plymouth, Torbay): the A38 becomes the M5 at junction 31. Continue north to junction 29.
  • From Exmouth and Sidmouth: head for the M5 at junction 30, then north one junction to junction 29.
  • From Exeter city centre: head east through Heavitree and along Honiton Road to Sowton and the M5, then follow the airport signs.

National Highways' Traffic England site, which the airport links to, shows live delays on the M5 and A30.

By bus

Stagecoach South West's 4A is the main bus to the airport. It runs from Exeter St Davids station through the city centre, stopping on Sidwell Street on the way out and Paris Street, by the bus station, on the way back, then through Heavitree and past Honiton Road Park and Ride to the airport. In the current timetable, buses run about every 35 minutes in the daytime, from about 06:00 to 20:00, and take around 30 minutes from St Davids. The airport says services are limited on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays, so check the times for your day.

The 58A also calls at the airport on weekdays, with one morning journey from Exmouth to Exeter St Davids and one back in the late afternoon. Traveline South West and Stagecoach's app show live times.

By train

The nearest stations, with the airport's guide to how far each is:

  • Exeter St Davids, about 7 miles: Great Western Railway trains to London Paddington, Plymouth and Cornwall, and around Devon. The 4A starts here.
  • Exeter Central, about 6 miles: South Western Railway trains to London Waterloo via Honiton, Yeovil and Salisbury, and local trains to Exmouth, Barnstaple and Okehampton.
  • Cranbrook, about 3 miles: trains to London Waterloo and into Exeter. Take a taxi from here.
  • Digby & Sowton, about 5 miles: local trains to Exmouth and into Exeter. Take a taxi from here.

By coach

No scheduled coaches stop at the airport. National Express and FlixBus coaches stop in Exeter city centre at Bampfylde Street, next to the bus station, where you can pick up the 4A nearby. Some National Express services, including the 501 between London and Plymouth, also call at Honiton Road Park and Ride in Sowton, which the 4A passes on its way to the airport.

By taxi

Apple Taxis is the airport's only authorised taxi firm and the only one that can use the Arrivals taxi stand. Book with them in advance or at the taxi desk in Arrivals. Other firms can drop off and collect pre-booked passengers in Car Park 1.

Food, drink and shops

Checked against Exeter Airport's own listings in October 2026; outlets change, so check the airport's site for opening hours.

The terminal is small, and opening hours follow the flight schedule.

Before security

  • Cove Café: drinks, pastries, cakes and savouries.
  • WHSmith: newspapers, books, snacks and drinks, including a meal deal.

After security

  • Moorland Kitchen: the main restaurant, with coffee, breakfast until 10:30 and lunch, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. It is not open for the last flights of the day.
  • WHSmith: a second shop for newspapers, books, snacks and drinks.
  • World Duty Free: fragrance, make-up, sunglasses and spirits, with 10% off if you reserve online between 30 days and 24 hours before you fly.

The airport also lists Coastline Café, serving breakfasts, toasties, paninis, burgers and cakes, with a children's menu and baby-bottle warming, but does not say which side of security it is on. If you have a late flight and want a hot meal, check what will be open before you go through. Exeter's Executive Lounge, after security, is the other option; compare it on our Exeter Airport lounges page, and see Exeter Airport parking to compare parking for your dates.

Sorted before you fly.
